Remote Start

I'm sure there was threads about this in the past but I want some current input. I'm interested in having a remote starter put on my truck as well as my wifes car (2002 Saturn). I know that cheap systems can end up screwing you if they go bad cause it cuts power to the ignition, I know some good ones have their flaws. Can anyone that has a remote starter throw in some input of good brands/models you've had experience with, and maybe things to look for when researching a remote starter. I really don't know that much about them but I want to make sure I am getting a good one when I do it.

Thanks!

Re: Remote Start

I myself have the code alarm remote start, which is made by audiovox, they also brand it out for Prestige (my mom and step dad have them on their monte carlo and diesel super duty) and a couple other. I have had mine for almost three trouble free years now. My only suggestion would be to have a reputable car shop install it. Too many people who thought they knew what they were doing (trying to save money) have screwed their stuff up good.

Re: Remote Start

I had Prestige alarm/remote start on my truck, they were not interconnected though. It worked fine for a while, but began acting up and when I turned off my truck it had to sit for a while before I could start it again.

I never looked into the issue and instead just turned it off. It may have just been a lose wire, but it wasn't a big deal to me though.

Re: Remote Start

I have a 2 way pager alarm/starter combo made by arctic start and have had it for over three years now without any problems. Well maybe one, if it is below -32ºc the starter will not start it, but it starts fine by key. Go figure.

Re: Remote Start

I had a 600 dollar autostart and it had some problems a few years after. It started unlocking the doors while running..which is never good. Ive also heard of stories of all the lights on the vehicle going out while driving. It really all depends on how good the place does that installs your system. Make sure that they solder your connections or you'll have a lot of issues.

Re: Remote Start

www.compustar.com are the best ones out there these days. They have RS units with over 2 mile range, lifetime warranty, and almost undestructable remotes(which is usually the weak link). I sell those and www.directed.com but DEI has been having issues with poor remote range and interfaces not working properly.

Re: Remote Start

Actually compustar is what I had...It had really great range. I could be in the middle of a mall and start my car out in the parking lot. Like I said though make sure the people who install it solder the connections...or you could have some real issues...

Re: Remote Start

Yes, a proper install is as critical if not more critical as having a good product to start with.
