Red face swap for a daily driver

alrigh ya'll i hear everyone talking about the high revving high horsepower b18c's and the like. I personally never... well ok... hardly ever... rev my car up. I have 225k on my 92 honda si (d16z i believe). I love the car and so i want to just swap a new engine in there. I would get a replacement engine... same as i have in there now... but I would like to get an engine with a tad more usable horsepower. I am thinking b18b or b20z. I figure the lower end torque is much better than what i have now and I wouldnt be giving up anything to get it. I still wanna get close to 30 mph since this is my commuter.

Any other ideas? Whatever I end up doing I want the following

1. more torque/usable horsepower
2. reliability
3. decent gas mileage
4. pass smog (damn CA)
5. I would be able to do little stuff to it... i.e. intake just so I can say "oh yeah I work on my engine" so I can impress the ladies

thanx ya'll

I think a B18b would be perfict for what you are looking for. Another clean swap would be a B16a but they cost a little more.

if you do the b-series engine it will cost alot more than just to get a replacement D-series engine. For the b-series you have to get ecu, tranny, motor, etc. If you do the D-series it will just cost you the engine which is pretty cheap. But then again you have 225k miles on your car so maybe you have to replace the engine and tranny.

yeah i am pretty sure i need to replace the whole kit and kaboodle. Do ya think that a b18b would probably be my best bet? Somewhere around $2500 or $3500 installed. I wish i had time to do it myself... but i just dont. So I'll have to pay someone mega bux for something i could do myself. damn it all.

anyway yeah I will still be looking at like 30+mpg right?
