Tires for 1999 Grand am GT

I have a 1999 grand am GT and i was wondering if it would be a problem to put the goodyear p225/50/r16 GT instead of the LS on there. The LS are twice as much, am i going to notice much difference.?

thanks

Re: Tires for 1999 Grand am GT

To answer your first question,
both the GT and LS are junk, IMO.

They wear fast and give little or no traction in wet or snowy conditions.
But you can put any brand on your car thats within the size limits of your rims specs(which are wrote on the drivers door[white sticker] along the latch side)

On the yokohama avids,
they sound good for price, but you get what you pay for. They too will wear fast, think the wear rating is 300 which is poor n
Also, Those You mentioned in your first post handle very poor in rain. Good luck keeping it on the road above 40 mph

Check tirerack.com.
I have Good years Triple tread Assurance on both my GA's,
and I'm trying to find them for my Dakota 4x4 truck.

Not cheap, but they are 80k mile warrnty, free rotate/balance.
Handle great in rain, snow, and dry.

Here is a report on the Good Year Triple Treads.

yeah, watch the tread wear number, the higher performance tires usually offer only softer compounds (lower numbers).

Re: Tires for 1999 Grand am GT

Avoid the yokohamas at all costs. I ran a set of them on my 95 gt, they were the worst tire I have ever run. Personally, for an all season tire I've been running a bfgoodrich excentia and they seem to do ok in the snow, great in the rain and great on dry roads. I also run snow tires in the winter, but have been caught a few times by putting them on too late in the season.
