Re: timming belt cut

if you mean when its running, you might have damage either the piston or valves when the belt broke. you might as well swap the engine in this case.

Re: timming belt cut

sorry for using walk but i mean running,

i asked that question beacuse i have a golf 4 and the timming belt get cut and i had to change all the valves .

and yesterday i heard someone say in the honda engines when the timming belt cut the engine will cut without any damage at the valves . is that right ?

Re: timming belt cut

im pretty sure msot hodna engines are no interferances engiens meaning if your timing belt snaps or breaks or whatever while running you jsut gotta ptu a new one on and re time it. no damage what so ever.

Re: timming belt cut

Honda engines (at least for the most part, I don't know if all of them are), are infact interference engines. Some people can just replace the t-belt and drive it, while others have to replace valves (or worse). It's just the luck of the draw, and how long they continued to run the engine after the t-belt took a crap.

Re: timming belt cut

yes i get it now. that mean if the engine stoped during running without any expected reason the one must not try to start the engine again and have to check the timming belt, thanks alot CIVICSPOON

Re: timming belt cut

Well, not really. In most cases like the example you gave, it'd be more likely that it's something else than a t-belt snapping. I've owned 2 cars (my '94 CX and an oldsmobile), and both have had problems in the past where they would just shut off on their own. All those times the problems were that the cars weren't getting spark, neither snapped a t-belt ever. The best way to make sure that a t-belt doesn't snap is to check it periodically. Even if you do it when you're changing your oil, that should be soon enough to find out if there's a problem. Check it for obvious wear and cracking. And if it's worn or cracked, don't drive it (not even to go buy another t-belt).

Re: timming belt cut

sure that is better if you check it periodically. but as i know the t-belt must change every 70 000 km . so you can start to check periodically at 50 000km.
