Need Help- Idle Problem

From looking at the boards, I am not the only one who has experiened a similiar problem. However many of the solutions listed I have already tried. My 01 Celica Gt has 90000 miles on it. About the middle of this year I have started to experience problems with the idle. When I come to a light, stop sign, or bumper to bumper traffic, every now and then the idle will start dropping close to zero and the car feels like its choking and wants to cut out. It even occured occasionally when slowing down to swing into parking spots. When the problem first occured I brought to our local mechanic and they cleaned the mass air flow sensor and cleaned the fuel injection. Thought this would fix it. No such luck. Next time I brought it to the Toyota dealer and they ended up replacing an O2 sensor and something like an air flow idle motor I believe. This didnt fix it either. The problem is that it only does it sporatically. So when I brought it back to the dealership after the first repair because it was doing it again, because they couldnt recreate it, they sent me on my merry way. I am beginning to get really fed up with this. All of these "repairs" that really didnt fix anything are putting a hurting on the wallet. I really dont know what to do anymore

If anyone has any advice or has had a similiar problem, I would love the feedback.

Re: Need Help- Idle Problem

I have been having the same problem with my 86 celica ST lately. One thing that I tried that helped a bit was to change my fuel filter (but it didn't totally cure it). Another thing that can cause idle problems is a vacuum leak somewhere in an engine gasket or in the fuel injection system. I am going to try and fix that next to see if that helps. It could be an electrical problem as well (bad ground, distributor) or your engine timing could be off. Anyways good luck!

Re: Need Help- Idle Problem

Yeah, i had the same problem when i bought my GT....I had it for 4 weeks, brought it in for an inspection, they said they didn't see a problem, so they cleaned the throttle body and charged me 45$ for doing it.

2 weeks later, piston rod blew through the bottom of the block. Thanksgiving day of 2005. i'm not saying the low idle had anything to do with it, but i just thought i would let you know...
