95 Park Ave wet floor

I recently had a problem where when I opened or closed the windows and/or door locked, the car would shut off. Turned out to be a bad ground (the one underneither the driver side sill panel, the ground bar). My next question is there a known problem with water coming into these cars? The floor behind the drivers seat was soaked. Thanks

Looking from underneath the car, in the center of the rear floorboard, you will notice what appears to be an "inverted plug" of some sorts. I had a leak on the passenger side, back floor after a heavy rain, only if I drove the car. It could rain all day and not get wet if it was not driven. I decided the water had to be coming from the bottom of the car. I jacked the car up and noticed these “inverted plugs” centered on each side of the floor behind the front seats. I decided to try silicone around the recessed portion of the plug to seal it from underneath. It worked, and has not leaked since!

BTW: Vacuum all the water you can from the carpet and do not cover it with a mat until it is completely dry! Also, leave the windows down when you have a nice sunny day.

I have a 97 PA and had pretty much the same problem. Except mine had nothing to do with the floor panel plugs. My carpets would get wet during even dry weather. After many under-car examinations, I took up the front passenger side carpet and found that the moisture was coming from the condensation off of the a/c evaporator coil. The exterior drain plug was plugged and not allowing the condensate to drain out. The drain is located in about the center of the firewall toward the bottom. I just ran a piece of wire up the drain and knocked loose the plug.

I got the worst wet car ever.
A freebie car 94' park ultra with 3 inches of water standing in it. Abandonded with windows down and neglect, it set for the whole winter, with food, cigars, tools, a Radio Shack DVM, an oil pressure sensor it needed, candy, books and papers. The slop was black mold. I shoveled out the muck, and took it to a carwash bay and blasted it and vacuumed and blasted and vaccumed. Went home and took a break and a bath. Later, I peeled back the carpet and tried to dry it.. no luck.. Finally had to remove the seats, remove the carpet and completely dry it out seperate from the car in the summer sun. While removed I repainted the floor with a puff can of Rustoleum to cover the rust specks.

The moisture rusted the seat recliner power worm gear and I had to remove them and wire buff and regrease them. So far Ive been lucky not to have other mysterious failures due to the wet.
The carpet ? It never stopped stinking of mold. I trashed and bought a replacement. (another dissappointing value at its price)

It's my favorite car now.. but I'm easy,,, and cheap.

I did another car somewhat similar. Nothing I tried got the stink out. It had had a colony of at least hundred mice. I could only drive it with the windows down to tolerate it. I thought of smoking a cigar while driving it but I was afraid of an explosion. It had been parked in a feed barn and stunk like wet ransid rat, gerbil, guinea pig cage bedding. Took a black light and saw the whole carpet was like a lepard pattern of spots. Dont know why but they didnt soil the seats. I dosed it with rug pet smell remover, generously with 3 gallons, and that didnt work either. I had the car for 6 weeks and sold it for a loss.

Im easy AND cheap.. but I dont stink .

The 68 AMC in my sig was the same way. The whole headliner was one big nest, the vent system, even the kick panel vents, they were everywhere. I brought the car home, and put it in the garage and Decon'd it, they still wouldn't die. Finally I put the cat out in the garage for a night, and when opened the door in the morning, there sat a nice little row of corpses

i have cleaned the car maticulously (wife sitll has yet to refinish the seats as she promissed 8 years ago , but 8 years, and 2 garages later, it still has a faint smell to it.
