Re: coolent in oil
thanks, its a 92 auto, eddie, with the 4.0. i did a pressure test too and no external leaks, but also there is no coolent on any spark plugs, they all look fine. its weird. this is stumping alot of mechanics around here. but ill guess a little head gasket leak. any suggestions on what to check?

Re: coolent in oil
How long does the cooling system hold pressure? Are you sure it's coolant in the oil and not just condensation from short drives? How quickly does the coolant level go down?

Re: coolent in oil
the coolent level looks to be a bit lower than should be. not dry or anything. but the dipstick has milkshake alll the way up it, but now i did an oil change its hard to tell how much is in there. the coolent pressure holds for a couple secs.then slowly drops. it doesnt drop fast but in incromints.

Re: coolent in oil
Bummer, sounds like the cooling system definitely has a leak somewhere, and chances are likely the milky oil is not just due to condensation.
![]() Seems like cracked head, cracked block, or intake or head gasket issue. I realize that doesn't narrow it down much. -Rod |

Re: coolent in oil
yeah i didan intake lower and upper, no diff, and its never been overheated so im thinking it may not be a cracked head. but mabe a small head gasket leak? what do you think? you seem to be the only one to answeraround here...

Re: coolent in oil
I don't think there is a good way to determine if it is head gasket, head, or block without tearing in to the engine. I have not been on the Explorer forum long enough to know if this if any of these are common problems with the Explorer either. Sorry.
