New Fuel Filter

FYI...

Replaced my fuel filter yesterday (guessing, I had about 40,000 mi) on it.

Did the "human blow" test - the filter was clogged to the point I could barely blow thru it.

I sliced it open just to see, would not believe the crap in the filter. I still can't believe the truck was actually running.

Seemed to notice a slight performance increase too.

I will start replacing at 15k to 20k from now on (or twice a year).

Merry Christmas!!

Re: New Fuel Filter

I just replaced my fuel filter, cleaned the IAC and throttle body at 94k and it's like it's a new truck again.

Re: New Fuel Filter

I was told the 2004 models don't have a fuel filter. Anyone know if this is true?

Re: New Fuel Filter

I believe the 04 still has a fuel Filter.. it is located under the bed on the driver side along the frame.

Your fuel pump will just love you for doing that.
Dirty fuel filters are the no. one killers of fuel pumps.
Depending on the gasoline you buy and where you buy it.
Some will make it a 100k and others only make it 1k or 10K.
Always buy gas at a high volume good grade of station.
Some good ones even have filters on there pumps.
Good luck and check or replace it ever so often and your fuel pump will have a long life.

Re: New Fuel Filter

I forgot to mention, I put in 2 pints of seaform cleaner in my tank (34 gal, 1 pint treats 16 gal).

Don't know if it actually does anything but I figure it can' hurt.

How did or how do you clean the IAC (idle air control?), with simple spray cleaner?

Seafaom is more for a winter storage gas conditioner.
But will not hurt it but may break lose some stuff so keep a eye on the filter.
Remember it catches it all.
Depending on what crap you have in the tank.
Was it rust or black stuff or moisture?
Heet or alcohol or ethanol will get the moisture out of it
You might want to run a little fuel injector cleaner threw it to.
Good luck

Re: New Fuel Filter

I just took it out and sprayed carb cleaner on it and wiped it off real good with a rag. I did that several times because it was really gunky.
