When cold, transmission is slow to go into reverse and is slow to go into OD/(converter lock up?).Also before I changed fluid&filter I had a couple of episodes of erratic shifting, including a shift into a neutral spot while cruise control was engaged.Filter and pan were clean(no sludge),and fluid looked good with no burnt smell ,although it was a little dark.Any help/ideas would be appreciated
Thanks.

You can do a pressure check but the procedure is somewhat involved. You'll save yourself a lot of headache if you just take it to a transmission shop and have them check it. Seeing that the vehicle is over fifteen years old, if you still have the orginal transmission, I would suspect that the unit is a goner.
