I was changing the transmission oil and filter in my dads grand marquis when i found this sitting in the trans pan anyone know what it is?

Your pic is not working.
Is this what was in the tranny pan? ![]() That is the fill tube plug they use at the factory when putting the car together. It means that your pan has never been dropped. |

OH MY GOSH - YOUR TRANNY IS GOING TO FAIL! (just kidding)
This is the shipping plug that is put in the dipstick hole at the factory where they make the trannys. They then ship them to the factory where the car is assembled; this plug prevents foreign material from getting into the tranny prior to installation in the vehicle. Finally, on the assembly line, the dipstick tube is installed down into the tranny, pushing this out of the way and into the pan area. It does no damage and lives there until the first time you change the fluid - like now! Throw it away and have fun when someone else asks you (like I just did). |
