removing encoder motor to make into manual

I have had nothing but problems with my otf 4x4, I spoke to a tech and I asked if it is possible to remove the encoder motor and somehow engineer my own manual lever to put it 4x4 being as the front axles run off vacuum and not electric when I manually move the transfer case lever it will know it and send the vacuum to the front axles and engage.
Does this sound realistic ?

Re: removing encoder motor to make into manual

I see how that would work,,,but first I am unable to get my transfer case to change because the encoder moter does not work.
I would need to make a handle to my transfer case to change to 4 hi, or lo,,etc.
Or would I just use a wrench and turn the transfer case to 4 hi and the keep it there and install that kit???

Re: removing encoder motor to make into manual

I actually removed the encoder motor and mounted a shift lever to the transfer case and up through the floor near my inside right leg,,,works great
