rock chips
i just got my car back from the bodyshop today with a newly painted hood and the little paice that goes inbetween the bumper and the lights. since winter's coming i know i'm gonna get some rock chips
what is the best way to fill the chips in so that they don't rust? i've heard that you fill the chip with touch-up paint then put a light coat of clear nail polish over it. any other suggestions?

Actually, they also sell bras for the whole front-end, not just the hood.
Personally, I decided to buy a Jeep Cherokee to use in the winter and put my car in storage or something. 4WD kicks so much ass in the snow! It's so much fun driving around in my Jeep in deep snow!

Disregard the corner lens, he rear ended someone and it came out, which is part of the reason he has the bra.

full bra is terrible for the paint. think the rock chips are bad put a bra on for a while. doesnt allow the paint the breathe. sun will fade the paint differently. At high speeds the bra flaps & rubs the paint.
Touch-up paint is ok for stopping rust. cosmetically it don't look good. re-paint is expensive but the best way to go. Permant markers work great for certain touch-up areas A clear film is available for front end protection can be applied to hood, fenders, bumpers, headlights. cant be removed just like window tint & and has not longer term effects on the paint. |

Yeah, bras are bad news to leave on your car. I have seen more damage done by them than protection. Crap gets between them and the car and scratches things up. Moisture (it rains a lot here) also gets trapped in there and causes the paint to get screwed up.

I have one of those clear bras installed on my 2001 Acura CL and love it. It's expensive but won't scratch the patch when it gets dirty like a regular bra.
Plus you can always peel it off and start again if it gets too worn. |
