1995 1.9L Won't Crank
I have a 1995 Escort, 1.9L, automatic that won't crank. We have power to the starter from the battery, and the ignition switch is sending power to the starter. The power from the ignition switch actually builds up the longer the key is turned, but still does not crank. The starter relay and starter have already been replaced. If we hook a jumper wire from the battery to the solenoid, it starts fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1995 1.9L Won't Crank
I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!
There was a loose connection (1 loose wire) in the plug under the dash where a mechanic would plug in the computer to test for codes. If I removed the wire from its connection, the car wouldn't start... if I plugged it back in, it WOULD start! I couldn't get the wire to snap back in and hold, so I rigged it and used electrical tape it hold it in place. PROBLEM SOLVED! I might go get a new plug someday, but now that I know WHAT causes this #@(%ing problem, I can fix it! I hope other can find this information usefull. |

Re: 1995 1.9L Won't Crank
Glad you found the problem without lots of parts changing. That sounds like it would have been a tricky one and you were fortunate to stumble across the solution early.
Might be a good day to buy a lotto ticket... |
