Stereo Size???
I have a '95 Blazer and have been really interested in once again upgrading my head unit. I have a really nice pioneer head unit already in it and it sounds really good. I'm just ready for something new. I'm in the market of possibly getting a double din head unit. I was just wondering if any of you knew if a double din would fit in my dash before I went out and spent any amount of serious chash for one.

Re: Stereo Size???
stock is 1.5din, so without cutting a 2din wont fit.

Re: Stereo Size???
I actually think a double din is too big for our factory openings, now don't quote me but from past installs I don't think they fit, sometimes they have a size called GM which fits ours perfectly but they are not very good. I would personally buy the best one you can afford and have a good shop clean up around it so it fits nice.

Re: Stereo Size???
I still got my factory head unit and I took it into a store and was able to take a Kenwood double din (model number: DDX-8017) to compare the who. Hight and width sizes were identical however the kenwood was about a half an inch or so deeper. Which is real no big deal to me, I'm able to do the work and make the install happen anyway. This was also a while ago when I did this. If I remember right, I would have been able to keep the little cubby hole they made under the factory head unit also. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever done a double din head unit install before. Cuz I found a bad ass head unit I'm really wanting to get. As I said before I'm wanting to do a little homework on potential problems I may or may not have before I just jump into something. The head unit I'm currently looking at is a Valor DTS-605W. Also If any of you have this head unit or something like it, give a shout out and lemme know what you think. If it's really worth it or not.

Re: Stereo Size???
Personally I don't think it's worth it. Double dins (DD)are pretty much two receivers stacked together sizewise and are mostly found in japanese vehicles. the biggest i know the blazer has is the CG (GM and Chrysler vehicles mainly) which is a little smaller than DD but bigger than a regular din. The only receiver i know of that fills the CG gap is made by pioneer. But there are some sweet double dins out there, CD and DVD/Navigation. if you are willing to go through the cutting modifications and such to make the sucker fit then go for it.

Re: Stereo Size???
Actually no cutting involved for a full double din in our trucks (at least for the 94-97's... Just use the Chevy Type II mount kits and make an ABS trim Ring
Here is a shot of my Pioneer AVIC Z1 (I've since redone the trim ring, no new pics for that though)

Re: Stereo Size???
I am very happy to see that someone out there has done what i'm wanting to do. If you dont mind my asking a few questions about your install. How hard was it? How did you go about making the abs trim to finish the install? and Where do I get a Chevy Type II mount kits for the install?
