2000 Astro LS Power door locks not working

I recently bought a used Astro Van LS model with 175,000 Kms or 120,000 Miles.

When I used the factory key fob it only locks and unlocks the passenger sliding door. When I press the lock/unlock button switch on either the drivers door or the passenger door, only the sliding door works. I have tried sucessfully to reset the key fob a few times and it does not fix the problem.

So both the driver's door, passenger door and the back door have to be manually opened and locked using the key when I get in and out of the van.

Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this problem.

Thanks,
Tahoeguy

Re: 2000 Astro LS Power door locks not working

I service a fleet of Astro/Safari vans and had that same exact problem on two different vehicles. In both cases it turned out to be three faulty actuators. Both times it was attributed to the driver resting their left knee on the switch while driving and subsequently burned out the actuators.

The best way to test for faulty actuators is to check for power and ground at the actuator connector by connecting a test light to both terminals simultaneously while cycling the switch in both directions. The light should illuminate in both directions. If in fact it does illuminate, you have a faulty actuator. If not, there is an open circuit somewhere in the wiring.

Hi Oldmaster,

Thanks for your help. I will try that. I guess I will have to pull the door panels off to get to the actuators.
By the way how much do the actuators cost ball park. And do I have to buy them at a GM dealer or do the sell them at a auto parts store.

Sincerely,
Tahoeguy

The Dorman part number is 75-614 and is available at Advance Auto Parts for around $40.00USD. Both front lock actuators use the same part number.
