Question Speedo & instrument cluster intermitten

My 1991 S-10 has several problems with the instrument cluster they are:
- no instrument lights
- only gauge which seem to operate correctly is the voltage gauge
- speedometer operates after the vehicle warms up
- auto speed control operates fine when the speedo is working

Is this most likely a bad cluster which should be replaced?

Pat...............

Re: Speedo & instrument cluster intermitten

Do you know if your getting the service engine light on? I assume you have regular analog cluster. the cruise control is related to the speedo through the VSS sensor that is located on the transmission. If the VSS is bad, or something is bad in that system, then you won't have TCC lock-up, your cruise control won't work, and you most likly have a SES light on.

Are you getting anything else working on the cluster? things like all the bulb idicators? When you first turn your key, all should light up indicating they work.

First check fuses. Make sure all the fuses are good and not blown.

Give us some more information, see what else there is.
