engine ground strap 97 blazer?

is there a ground strap between the 4.3 w engine and the frame on a 97 blazer automatic? 2 or so years ago I had an intake manifold gasket done and wonder if the mechanic left off the ground strap or is there a rf suppression condenser somewhere that he may have leftoff? Ever since I have some ignition noise on the am radio. thanks.

Re: engine ground strap 97 blazer?

There should always be a grounding strap between the engine and the chassis of any given vehicle. On cars where this ground strap is damaged or missing, electric flow can occur between the driveshaft and transmission tailshaft housing - the slip joint here can cause noise in the radio, as well as electrolysis of the driveshaft and/or transmission output shaft bushing, as well as a sporadic chassis ground which comes with its own set of problems.

Other end is back of right cylinder head and the other end is bolted to frame just above it.
Its a flat copper cable about 20mm x 3mm; 300mm long... (this is -98)

Re: engine ground strap 97 blazer?

I have looked all over the engine for a ground strap, none found. checked out another 97 blazer and found none. checked out a 98 and there it was, passenger side at the rear of the engine. i did install a heavy "0" gauge ,fine straned battery cable from the neg. battery cable to the alternator bracket. i will install another heavy cable from the engine, probably from the same alternator bracket to the frame and see if i clear up my noise. my 97 does have a 10 gauge or so wire fron neg battery terminal to the frame rail near the battery. any comments from 97 owners????

Re: engine ground strap 97 blazer?

Does the radio noise change to coincide with engine speed a-la possible alternator noise?

The easy things to check are the battery terminals (for corrosion). I would think the fat wire you hooked up would help with a bad ground?

I took a peek while under the hood of my '97 and have no obvious ground straps from the block..
