Question 2003 power windows

Hi, I have an 03 Taurus. The drivers side window does not want to roll down at times. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't. It has no problems rolling up. When it refuses to roll down I can hear the solenoid clicking in the fuse panel. I have noticed that the other windows do not make the solenoid do this. The tracks do not seem to be sticking so what could be the cause of this. Could the motor be quitting after only three years or could it be something else. Thanks

Re: 2003 power windows

I suspect you are not hearing a solenoid clicking in the fuse panel, but rather you are hearing the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker will open and click like you describe if the current draw is too large. This will be due to either a stuck window or a short somewhere (wiring, switch, or motor).

Does the driver's window appear to work more slowly than others when it does work? Does it make any other sounds while rolling up or down?

Hi Rod, the window when it works, works great. It is as fast as the other windows and makes no unusual noises at all. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it only sticks in the up position

Well, probably the next thing for you to do would be to remove the motor assembly and see if the window motor works with no load.

I'm not sure what the arrangement of the power window regulator is on the 2003 Taurus. If it is cable driven, then you will need to be very careful when removing the motor and gearbox so as to not cause the cable spool to come out of the regulator assembly. If the motor works fine with no load, you may be looking at a window track that is binding either due to misalignment or insufficient lubrication.
