1997 Z71 wont shift from park

My transmission was shifting in P R N D 3. But it would not shift to 2 or 1. I went underneath and could manually shift it by hand to 2 and 1. I shifted it in park and now it won't come back out of park. I tried to apply the brakes and start the engine and I also pulled the fuse for the brakes, still nothing.

Also there is some type of electrical short. Sometimes the speedometer and tac is not accurate or does not work at all and the check guages light comes on.

Welcome to the forum. Your brake light switch does have a release so that you can shift out of park. Your shift cable may also be out of adjustment.
