O2 threads bad
hey guys.
I was replacing my O2 sensor and it must have been threaded in bad the last time it was done (i did not change it). The threads in the pipe are beat to hell. Do I need to take this to a muffler shop and have them replaced the pipes to the manifold or can I fix the treads with a tap and die? or can a muffler shop just weld in a whole new thread section into the pipe. Or can I just cross thread the hell out of it again and make it fit and jam it? or would that jack-up the reliability of the sensor readings if it's not in deep enought.

Re: O2 threads bad
The threads pulled out when you removed the sensor.
You can rethread the hole with a spark plug tap

Re: O2 threads bad
i don't know that they pulled out, but must have been cross threaded when they when it went in last time. It was so jammed up I, thought i was going to break the sensor off inside it.
I will try the spark plug tap. Is it the same size,or how do I know what size to get.. Will I have to drill the hole smooth and then put in an insert and then tap it, our just re-tap it with the existing hole and threads that are there?? will that make it too big?

A spark plug tap or thread chaser for large GM 13/16 plugs. no need to drill, just run the tap thru

Re: O2 threads bad
thank you Merlin.
I am just having a hard time tracking down one of those taps that's the right size. Im going to try napa or sears this next week. In the mean time, I just threaded it back in all half-assed and put some high temp sealer aroud it.
