99 Venture Van Engine Whirling Sound
I have a whirling sound in the area of power steering unit that gets louder when you accelerate. I've replaced the power steering and the serpentine belt and checked all the pullies which has had no effect on the noise. I'm thinking maybe it's timing belt related or a loose timing belt tensioner. Anybody had this problem or knows how to fix?

Re: 99 Venture Van Engine Whirling Sound
Your van has no timing belt, it uses a chain and gears. Try taking the serp belt off and run without it for a few seconds. If the noise goes away, it is related to a belt driven accessory/pulley. If the noise is still there, it could be a torque converter/trans issue.

Re: 99 Venture Van Engine Whirling Sound
I' ve had some various sounds from the drivebelt area. The initial whinning turned out to be my belt tensioner pully. It actually ended up locking up in front of my house, so new one was installed and addressed that issue. The second belt noise issue turned out to be the harmonic balancer getting out of whack. I did replace the water pump and two idler pulleys before the balancer was replaced, now it runs pretty quitely.
