The article mentions common sense. All they've got to do is look through a leveled surveyor's scope and they'll see that their gaze eventually leaves the ground. Or to take a look at the ocean, you can just make out the curvature.

 umm, so where is india and china and europe then. in the guys picture most of europe and asia seems to be missing. africa is there, but it is in the wrong place. i didnt see australia either. i propose that we bring these people up in space and have them orbit the earth a few times. either that or just knock them over the head with a globe. hehe
