car accelerates weird...

I've made posts on thsi before, but that was back when the first mod i made was a cold air intake...

since, I've replaced the spark plugs and wires, ran royal purple oil, replaced fuel filter. I think that's it for making engine work better...

But my car acts weird... almost like it's turbocharged or something (obviously it's not, but that's the feeling). It accelerates pretty hard when I go WOT but at the higher RPMs it pulls even harder than before. Like I get pressed against my seat HARDER in HIGHER RPMs, and it's not a gradual shift either. Doesn't seem to make logical sense. It's kind of weird... like I said, like a shitty turbo kicking in or something. Any ideas?

Re: car accelerates weird...

It was probably restricted before you put that intake on. Most manufacturers try to quiet their engines down and when you open up the intake flow you're allowing the engine to flow more air.

I remember putting an intake on my dads Sebring. that thing sounded like a race car afterwards. then the tranny blew.

Re: car accelerates weird...

I have the same car/engine that you have. The power band is in the upper RPM range on this engine and really does feel pretty good for such a small engine.

Re: car accelerates weird...

Oh I understand. Its the same way in our 02 Hyundai Elantra. When you first hit the gas its a little sluggish, then once it gets up to 3-4k rpms it speeds up, almost in stages. like vrrrrrRRRRRROOOOMMM lol.

Re: car accelerates weird...

great feeling I think

if you get the pcm, and go up to redline in first gear you'll feel it pretty good

good way to do it is star around 2krpms then gradually push it till you're full WOT and hopefully the pcm doesnt shift... doing this however in other gears may make it shift down and then all of a sudden ur RPMS are way high and it just sounds bad/hurtful for the engine cause then it'll just shift back to where it was heh.... skip shifts tho for DHP PCM are nice to have on the highway

Re: car accelerates weird...

Hey Vipey, how many miles are on you GA?

Did you ever get the trans fluid and filter changed?
If you have over 50k miles, I'd say its time for a change.

Keep up on injector cleaners too !!

The 3.4's do have a powerban thats higher into the rpms, 3-6k rpm. When you get your exhaust that band moves into the lower rpms

I like it when you have the car in low '1' and forget to upshift :
Or sitting at a light in "N" and just hold the throttle to the floor "ring-ding-ding-ding"
The governer keeps it from going over to high, 4krpm usually and it just freaks people out at the stoplights. Not that I'd recomend you doing those things

Re: car accelerates weird...

I have 171,000 miles on my GA LOL...

and 3.4 isn't really a "small" engine per se compared to most imports

so yeah, my car probably needs a LOT of things done/replaced/flushed/fixed.

Re: car accelerates weird...

Honestly the 3.4s are POS.

But with those kinda miles Vipey You probly do need some work done.

So if the accelerations still wierd, check your vacum lines.
-If one is loose or cracked then this can cause poor/rough acceleration.
-Also clogged fuel filter, and or the Injectors, can cause these symptoms.
These injectors are not the best anyways.
I had to replace all of mine 1-2years ago.

Even low fuel pressure could be a culprit.
Either a bad fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.

You can test the fuel pressure from the shrader valve on the passengerside of the engine.
You can buy or rent the gauge from most auto parts stores.
It should be between 41-47 psi.
The valve in located by between the alternator and powersteering pump.

Good Luck
