Re: crank girdle

i don't know what your referring to as a girdle but the d15 and d16 bottom end are pretty much identical on the outside.

But VERY different on the inside. I don't think they are swappable. I think you can only use the 1.6 girdles.

Re: crank girdle

soo would a z6 one work then if i found it?

the girdle is the piece that bolts on to your bottom end after you put the crank and bearings in.

oh ok i know what your talking about. sorry im sort of a self taught backyard mechanic and have only taken apart a few engines, so i dont what what the exact names for parts are. but anyways ya you definatly cant use a d15 's. the z6 might work and its aluminum, the a6 is steel i think. it also looks like those things have to be a pretty exact fit. if its not totally perfect you might have bearing problems. you might have the same problem with another a6 girdle from a different block. what happend to the original?

So, did you replace the toothpick sized rods and rivet sized rod bolts yet? If not, plan on replacing the girdle for a 3rd time in the near future.

an educated guess would be "yes". But, I don't know personally and I don't have anymore Dseries motors laying around in the garage to verify. Sorry buddy. If I did, i'd go out and try swapping them for ya, but I don't.
