1" lower

A friend of mine with a 95 talon tsi awd just bought these shocks and springs off of ebay... they say that they will lower the car 1 inch front and rear. Will he need a camber kit for only an inch of lowering the car or is that only needed when you go around two or so inches. Does anyone here have their lowered an inch?

Re: 1" lower

If they are cheap springs off ebay THROW THEM IN THE TRASH! If they are good quality then he will be fine. You will be fine in the front, the back is really optional, it will be off a little but it shouldn't be to bad. I would just put some washers behind the upper arm mounts on the rear to push the camber back out a little. Tell him to go ahead and change his struts or his car will ride like shit and he will have to take everything back apart to do change them. And he should go get a full alignment done.

Re: 1" lower

Yes I have one
I would recommend it. They are pretty cheap so he should go ahead and put one on there. With out one his tires might wear out faster

Re: 1" lower

Actually you won't need a camber kit. My car has been lowered 2" in the front and 3" in the back for about a month now with -2 degrees camber in the front and -3 degrees camber in the back and my tires haven't seemed to wear at all. As long as you get an alignment you should be fine as far as tire wear is concerned. Because its not so much the camber that eats tires but its really the toe out that eats tires. The negetive camber is actually where alot of your handling comes from. I say just lower it and get it aligned and you should be good to go.

Re: 1" lower

Camber WILL wear the tires quite a bit. Toe will aslo wear the tires but in a completly different wear pattern. I would reccomend a camber kit and an alignment with any suspension alteration, that and I'm an alignment tech haha

Re: 1" lower

My alignment guy told me that camber can wear out tires over a long period of time. But he says as long as your toe is straight then you can run -camber without ruining your tires, and so far that has proved true in my case.

Re: 1" lower

The master certified mitsubishi tech at the dealership that I work at has a set of tien(sp?) springs and a set of shocks that will lower my car 2 inches and he promises me that I would not need a camber kit? Is he correct? I dont usually question his knowledge but seeing this thread is making me think about it.

He said he would sell me the springs and shocks for $350.00. That includes instalation and a full allignment. Is that a good deal? Should i buy them?

Sounds like a deal. I would assume he knows what he is talking about, but if he does the work at the dealership than it's warrantied and that makes it worth it.

If he messes up and the tires do wear because of the camber you could probably take the car back to him and tell him to fix it.

camber(as long as its equal on both sides)wont cause any driveline issues nor will it cause the car to pull but it will wear the tires, it wont wear as fast as a toe problem but it will wear prematurly

Re: 1" lower

I burnt up the insides of a brand new set of tires over 1 summer because of camber, I'd suggest getting a camber kit. They're cheap ass insurance, why wouldn't you get one?

Re: 1" lower

Also to much camber will hurt your cars handling.
