6G72 mitsubish galant 3.0 engine into a 3000gt?

i have a 1999 mitubishi galant with a 3.0 liter v6 and the engine type is a 6G72. i have noticed that the 1991-1999 mitsubishi 3000gt's also had a 3.0 liter v6 and the engine type is a 6G72 also . now can i swap my engine from the galant into a 3000gt/dodge stealth and if so what mods will i need?

Re: 6G72 mitsubish galant 3.0 engine into a 3000gt?

im fairly certian that the tranny is on the opposite side in a galant. if your going through all that trouble, you might as well drop in a 3.5L 6g74. Same work involved. Why? you looking to but a 3/s with a blown motor?

EDIT: Actually, i was thinking of the 4cyl galants, the V6 is on the drivers side (i think...) so it should go in all good. may wanna check if the tranny mountup is the same though.

Yes, anything is possible. But if you are asking this question, (and no offense) but hte answer you need to hear is NO. It isn't a direct swap. The tranny is mounted opposite, AFAIK, as mentioned above. So you would need to swap in teh accompanying tranny, then do a hell of alot of customization/fabrication.

Bottom line, just because 2 cars have teh same block code doesn't mean they have hte same engine. Hyundia Sonatas had a 6g72...same situation.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Too correct Igo. Hell even the SOHC and DOHC 6g72 in the 3s's arent the same. oil pump, accessorys, everything is difference on them.

Also the galant SOHC are 24 valve, where our SOHC are 12 valve.

I'll make it clear, you can't do it.

Now the only reason anyone mentioned the possibility of it happening is because anything is possible, you could build your own ferrari if you wanted and had the skills, but doing this would take just as much fabrication.

The two engines are mounted in opposite directions.

Put another way... The engine is not "compatible", the engine block is.

The question is why you are trying to put the galant engine in the 3000gt? If you are thinking it's a simple replacement, it's not worth doing... If you are tearing the engine down and re-building it in the 3000gt then maybe.

Step 1, Put Galant engine on ebay.
Step 2, Buy 3000GT engine from ebay.
Step 3, there is no step three, its that simple to convert your engine.
