99 Suburban Runs Rough
Hi all, new here, just had a question about a 99 burb for sale.
Some guy is selling a 99 Suburban 1500 2WD, but it runs "rough." He says it will start, but it seems as though it is starved for fuel, and the fuel gauge keeps bouncing back and forth between empty and full. I've searched through the forum here, and some have experienced similar, though not exact, problems, related to a bad fuel pump. A cousin of mine used to work at a GM dealer, and says it could be fuel pump, or possible bad injectors, or both, but he would need it in the shop to be sure. Everything else appears to be OK witht he car, according to him. Tranny is good, paint, leather, body, all good, just rough running engine. Is this worth looking into and fixing? Or better yet, is the problem fairly easy/common to fix? Would bad compression cause any of the above mentioned problems? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really interested in this car, but I dont want to end up buying a money pit! |

Re: 99 Suburban Runs Rough
How many miles? GM is notorious for fuel pump problems and installing a pump on a burb might not be cheap. Also, these years of GM's had issues with fuel pressure regulators. That would usually cause an intermittent hard start problem. Hard to tell with the gauge fluctuation though. Maybe a bad sending unit. If you are really interested though maybe see if you can have it for a few hours and have a shop diagnose the problem. You will have to pay for that but many times driveability issues aren't that bad.

A compression test would be a wise investment if you are interested in this vehicle.

Re: 99 Suburban Runs Rough
Sorry left out the mileage, it has 110,000 on it. I asked him about the drivability of the truck, and he does not recommend driving it in its current condition, as it shuts off.
Are there any tests that can be performed on site? |
