Windshield removal, Who’s done it before?

I need to replace my daughters windshield in her 98 Cavalier. It’s in bad shape after the air bags deployed.

What’s the best way to do this in a Cav and what tools work best?

Thanks Tim

oh man, i would not mess with the window myself. i would let profesionals do it cuz if you dont seal it right you will have a whisle and leaks and thats not good, but if a pro does it most likely they will repair it if it is not done right the first time and they will do it for free. but thats just my 2 cents

Re: Windshield removal, Who’s done it before?

I guess I should have explained better. The windshield in my daughters car is junk due to teh air bag deployment as already stated.

I found a windshield in a "U pull it" place. They wnat $35 for it but I have to take it out. I have a guy that will install it "on the side" for $50 if I get the one from the "yard".

I'm just looking for the best way to get it out without shattering it.

Tim

Re: Windshield removal, Who’s done it before?

My dad and I replaced the windshield in his stang a loooong time ago and I believe that he used piano wire. Any wire that is very thin and very strong should work. I believe all we did was get the wire between the glass and the metal, and go around the window. I know that it was very hard and more than likely you will end up shattering at least one window trying to get it out. But if the junkyard has more than one at least you will get some practice
Hope this helps,
DJP2
