How well do 2G internals hold up?

I ask because my goals with this car are not exactly super lofty. I want to get around 275-325HP but don't know how well the stock internals hold up. With those figures in mind, are the pistons and rods fine, or do they need to be upgraded?

Fuel mods and some other obvious things need to be upgraded as well, but I'm mainly concerned with the internals at this point. If they do need to be upgraded, I'd rather start there and work my way outward.

Re: How well do 2G internals hold up?

Your internals will be fine for that... IIRC 2g internals can handle about 400hp before needed upgraded. 1g's will handle about 450ish...

Nice. Do you know if cams make a big difference or not? I know with my Grand Am, boost specific cams made a decent improvement when they were used in conjunction with a superchardger or turbo. Does the same go for the 4G63?

I think he was referring to whether or not cams make a big difference on the 4g63

Oooo Good call. lol

Yes, cams do make a huge difference on these motors. In reality, cams make a huge difference on just about every motor out there.

Re: How well do 2G internals hold up?

There are a few indiviguals who have put down 500hp on stock 7bolt 4g63 internals. What is your car & current mods?

1995 Eclipse GS-T.

Completely stock. Just found this little gem with only 76400 miles on it within the last month, and the previous owner was likely not a gear head of any sorts, because I still have the original purchase papers and shit for it, and they purchased the highest level maintainence package and what not. She's crisp.

Good deal. Unmolested DSM's are the best to start with.

Dont listen to 2g boy over there .

Just playing. I dont know about 7 bolts, but I know 6 bolts are good, stout motors. 450 shouldnt be much problem at all on a 6 bolt, I know of several guys around here that have been putting down 500+ on sock 6 bolt internals. I think the record for stock 6 bolt internals is like 585whp. Personally, I am going to push it to atleast 450 and try to keep it to 500 or below if the current plan holds.
