94 gmc Automatic trans shift kit question

So i was looking online just being bored and seen a shift kit for my truck. What exactly does this do for your truck as in does it help it out with smoother shifts? Or it just a waste of money, and how hard is it ot put it in, if anyone has any information please help me out. thanks

I have installed a Transgo Reprogramming kit on a 4L60E car. It also claims to help reduce P1870 codes and increases the life of the 3/4 clutch pack. It really made a nice difference on the way it shifted. I went very mild and did not want the car to chirp the tires on every shift.

It helps if you have experience with a valve body. It took me about 4 hours for just the Transgo kit but I also replaced the servo seals and that added some time because one of the cats had to come off.

In my case, it was well worth the money. I think it depends on the mileage of your tranny and your goals for the truck. I already had the corvette servo and that is a good upgrade for your truck if you do the kit.

We'll at he moment my truck has 128,000 miles on it and i was thinking a nice shift kit would be a nice addition to possibly give me alittle more smooth shifts and better driveability over all. What exactly is the Corvett Servo? I am not very noledged with trannys and not sure what a Servo is, so if you could help me out tat would be great.

The servo looks like this http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-000035952.htm and is involved in applying the 2-4 band to the sunshell.

It is not that expensive and can be installed without removing the transmission pan.

It is a good addition to a shift kit.

You will not get smoother shifts w/a shift kit but firmer quicker shifting, a shift kit reprograms your valvebody to change shift points as well.
you can gain a slight edge in performance but my main reason for the addition was to make my very expensive trans last a little longer with less clutch slippage with shifting which keeps the trans cooler and less cluch material floating around etc. though with more than 100k on your trans you might be looking at trouble installing a kit, with that many miles on the clutch's and bands they may not take to well to the quicker firmer shifts.
I wouldn't rebuild a trans without the addition of a shift kit though.

We'll my truck has almost 128thousand miles so do you think i should wait and have the tranny rebuilt whenever i have the money and while it's take apart buy a shift kit and that servo thing and have that thrown in? I mean i was wondering how the tranny would perform with new parts considering i am the 2nd owner and i take pretty good care of the truck but hte last owner messed with it bad and i had to replace the engine. cus it spun a bearing so pretty much i am more or less alittle inffy about doing sumthing like that and getting the shift kit for the truck.

I guess we will have to see .........
