Re: checking fuel pump

when you turn your key to the start position, you should hear a faint buzzing sound coming from the rear trunk area. this is your fuel pump. however, it can be difficult to hear this buzz/hum over the noise of the engine starting.

what is the problem you are trying to fix? what kind of car do you have? teh more details you give, the more it will help us help you.

welcome to AF!

Re: checking fuel pump

sorry about that i didn't notice i left that out. it's a 94 mitsubishi 3000gt. im thinking its the fuel pump or clogged filter because i was driving and the RPM's would drop and it would cut out but it would immediatly kick back on until it finally stopped. i was able to start it a couple of times but it only runs for a couple of seconds. i didn't hear any buzzing sounds when i tried to start it.

thanks

is that the sound thats similar to the active exhaust when you first turn you car on or the fuel pump? i always figured it was the exhaust testing itself on startup or something.

Ok, then let's start at the beginning. Are you getting a Check Engine Light? Did you do any work to the car recently?

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
