please help

Hi everyone
I drove out about 4 miles away from my house, when all of a sudden my engine started getting very rough, it started smelling like what seemed to be a burnt rubber smell or oil, and my lights started dimming. As I started driving home, the exhaust seemed like it was coming out in rounds of "pops", all the while the engine was going very rough. The smell dissapeapeared by the time I got home. At first I thought it was the belts, they seem fine right now. Has anybody encountered anything similar, and if so, can you give me any pointers.

Re: please help

some of what you said made me think it may be your alternator an battery combination. or maybe your fuel pump going out or not enough gas, or maybeyour ignition timing? if your have a chiltons manuel there is a trouble shooting section maybe try looking in there. i hope i helped a little and good luck.

make model and year of car...
without that, any trouble shooting is really impossible.
