Tranny Problems?
I have a 91 Regal Custom... I have noticed that recently when I go around a corner, and I let off the accelerator around the curver, but then put my foot back on it after I straighten the wheel, my tranny revs up like it's in neutral and then gets in gear. What is its problem..

It could be pump cavitation due to low fluid level, or filter clogged, causing fluid starvation. Have you changed the fluid & filter lately? Is the fluid at the correct level when warm? If neither of the above, you may have internal problems!

Re: Tranny Problems?
The question is, does it rev up high, or does it rev aup a little bit before settling into its gear?
When it revs, does it engage the gear and then you feel a pull in the car... like a little surge foward... is the engagment rough? |

Re: Tranny Problems?
to answer both questions.. I will flush it soon and change the filter too... I need to.
When it revs, its only for a brief second, and it is not a high rev at all. and it kind of just goes into gear, no clunking or anything like that.

Quote:
So what you are experiancing is normal, where as if the trans slammed into gear, or reved to several thousand rpm, you'd have an issue. You should learn how to control your auto trans. example, when starting from a stop, start pressing in the pedal and hold it a slight ways in... as the revs come up, slowly increase pedal pressure, if you do it right, you will get great acceleration. Get a feel for how and when the trans shifts. The more you get to understand its normal operation, the better you'll be at identifying problems. |
