oil cooler leak
I'm guessing that to fix the leak between the oil cooler and it's flange you have to remove the filter, unscrew the nut on the threaded rod the filter screws onto , and replace an o-ring between the cooler and the flange. Am I on the right track? Pics to follow.

![]() There is an alignment fork right where the drop of oil is. That's got to mean that the cooler separates from the bracket, no? I just changed the oil so it'll have to wait just under 3K for the swap. Going to try St. Charles again today. I suppose I wouldn't lose more than a qt, though...

You know, mine has had a very teeny tiny drip from that same area for over a year; not even enough to ever actually hit the concrete. I only wipe it off when I'm changing the oil, other then that I've never seen anything more then the picture you posted.
Oil level never changes more then 1/8qt in 3k miles, so I'm personally not going to fret with the oil cooler yet - I'm not even 100% sure that's where it's coming from either, could be dripping down from above. Where ever it's coming from though, it's not enough to get anything else yucky under there; until it becomes more obvious, at 165k miles, I'm leaving it alone. I learned with my old Toy, that sometimes by trying to fix one problem, you create another simply cause things are aging and don't like to be moved around. Have more leaking issues with my *half-the-mileage* Dodge diesel, damn good truck, but these diesel engines really wreak havoc on seals/gaskets.

You can see that those wires are pretty wet - that's after I wiped them clean. And the skid tray was covered with fresh clean oil. It's gotten to the point where its a little more than an annoyance. It looks like an easy fix. AutoZone didn't have one available, but the oil cooler gasket did pop up on the computer.

Well yeah, I guess if yours is that bad then it's time to fix it - didn't see in the pic that your lines were wet.
I haven't put my skid plate back on for a few months, wanted to make sure I caught any antifreeze leaks I was having there for a while before they became big. That skid plate tends to hide issues when they're little. Will for sure put a new/thicker skid plate on in the spring; Discount tire ruined the structure of my current one by trying to lift the front of the truck. Still works and goes on without issue, but made me realize that it's really not all that strong for warding off dangers my truck is exposed to out at the lake and in the mountains.

Two seals and a gasket coming from MO...
And some interior trim pieces I've needed for awhile.

I got my parts today. For the oil cooler, they sent me two rubber coated copper washers, which I have no idea what to do with (PN 8-94329-964-0), and an o-ring. The o-ring was very easy to swap out. The nut is 30mm and you need a deep socket. Once you take the nut/threaded tube off, the cooler falls away from it's mounting flange/bracket. The old ring was flat. It popped right out. Put it back together and no leaks. Lost only about 1/4 qt. of oil when I took the filter off. There's an opportunity to swap those two short coolant hoses that run to the cooler, and I think I'll do them with the next coolant flush.
Any ideas what those 2 coated washers are for? The description on the bag reads GASKET; OIL PIP.

They go between oil filter adapter and engine block... well kind of... these some other part to engine block. Oil cooler connect to adapter and these go on another side of adapter. |

Thanks for the feedback. Right now I have no other leak down there, so I'll just hang on to the parts. The valve cover is going to have to be done soon. Anyone use more RTV than just at the cam tower?
