SS S/C vs Lightning

wahoo finally a race in my cobalt that got the adrenaline pumping.

So today was a nice sunny cold day in michigan. About 25F outside, we had just got snow earlier in the week so the cobalt was covered in salt. Decided to get a car wash, return some movies and go for a rid.

I was out looking for a race, really couldnt find anything. This time of the year most of the cars on the road in michigan are beaters and 4x4 SUVS. I get to a stop light to make a right hand turn. I look to my left and there is a sexy blue lightning about ready to to go green on the light same way as im turning. Its a 2 lane road, so i quickly jump into traffic, no cars ahead of us because of the red light the lightning was at.

As soon as i get into the right lane, hes in the left lane, he catches up to me. I was in 2nd at about 3500 RPMS 35 ish mph the sweet spot. I punched it first, his front bumper was at my door. I quickly put his front bumper to my rear bumper, and which point he halted my advance. Redlined 2nd and did a really nice shift into 3rd, by this point where pretty even, hes slowly pulling away, finish off 3rd at like 85 MPH and i shut down with my front bumper at his rear bumper. We both slow down because of an upcoming stop light, i look over give him the thumbs up, he smiles and nods. The end.

Its a loss, but i feel i held my own in this race, so im pretty excited about it.

nice loss. Gotta love the ones where it's a pretty close race, no matter what happens, they are always exciting.

I wonder how much he would have pulled after running to 120 or so...I would love to be able to just stick with a Lightning they are soooo sweeet.

Re: SS S/C vs Lightning

I raced a lightning with the mustang before and it was a shut out. Those things are fast. I have a feeling the one I raced wasn't stock either given the way it just took off.

Re: SS S/C vs Lightning

Good run. I've raced two lightnings thus far (In my former Z28). I beat both of them. They really scoot down low (If the driver knows what he is doing and doesn't get too much wheelspin). Typically up top they run into problems due to aerodynamics.

I'm sure that once you get that Cobalt SS some mods it will be a very even race next time Been seeing alot of aftermarket support flourish for those cars. I think a pulley should be your first mod.

Re: SS S/C vs Lightning

was the lightning stock? they're pretty fast in stock trim but once you start modding those things they can get real sick real quick. i've never actually run one in my car but i've seen what they're capable of at the track,,,not bad for a ford . it probly wouldn't take too much $$ for you to be able to hang with a stock one tho.

good race

Good run, no shame in losing to a truck
