Re: college...

Take a sabbatical and travel first.

Or just take subjects that interest you until you find what you want to major in.

Re: college...

Take a bunch of intro. courses to fields that interest you. Then decide which one you like best. Nobody can really tell you what to "be", you just have to experiment a little and see what you can handle as a career. I tried out Criminal Justice, Business Administration, and Computer Science before making my decision. All intro. courses, but I had a general idea of what each was about and made a decision based on what I felt suited me best.

Re: college...

Last I knew, undecided was the #1 major in the United States, so you arn't alone. Most schools have career development offices and people that can help you out.

Re: college...

Those people don't help, trust me.

I'm undeclared, and all the workshops and career classes don't do anything. Nobody can help you decide what you'll want to do for the rest of your life.

Re: college...

Just go as an undeclared major. They'll usually let you go two years before you have to decide. Take as many courses as you can in different areas in those two years and you'll probably be able to find something you like.

That's pretty much how it worked for me...I declared a major, but switched after two years (to Psychology) and I'm enjoying it much more.

A bunch of my college buddies took this route and they are all succeeding to one degree or another (one of them has a 911). Accounting is big right now too, big demand, not enough of em $60,000 starting salaries.

Re: college...

I don't think anyone know's what they want to major in when going to college. You will more than likely change your major at least 3 times. I changed mine 4 times before finally deciding and getting my business degree. I actually got a RN degree and then realized once I got on the job that I was not cut out to be a nurse. The school part was easy, actual job experience was not. Just try a variety of subjects and see which one interests you the most.

Re: college...

Re: college...

I started as a business major but have realized this year that I have wasted 2 years of my life in it so i dropped it. None of that interested me so I am automotive tech in the campus trade school for now or I will be joining the marines or army to be a mech.

Re: college...

Nobody knows what they want to be. Well ratehr 95% don't know. Many even graduate and don't know what htey want to be. That is why many many graduates take a year off to just travel, or do some volunteer work, or whatever. Don't stress out. I think it is a huge misconception, that everything leads up to the next step. Like you have to do good in high school to get into a good college, you have to do good in college to get a good job, etc. It's to the point now, where 4th graders are stressing about doing good. I mean who the hell looks at 4th grade transcripts.

Just find something that is interesting to you. Do it until it becomes boring. Then switch if you aren't gaining enough satisfaction, or enough money to sufficiently distract yourself on the weekends.

Re: college...

the 95% Statistic is true, except that engineers and physics majors tend to know what they want to do starting in highschool.
i have known since 8-9th grade i wanted to be a mechanical engineer.

I was exactly the same way about law. I think that 95% statistic is a bit high.
