Body Lift... Benefits vs. Looks

I have a 3'' or 3.5'' suspension lift and I just switched to 35'' Super Swamper Boggers. I was able to practically stuff my 33's so I want to go 2'' taller. Here's what I'm thinking:

Suspension lift (2'' more)... Expensive since I would have to get the appropriate drive train parts, but more ground clearance. Also, no extra gap between the frame (bumpers) and the body.

Body Lift... Cheaper, lower center of gravity, but then there's a gap between the frame and body.

Anybody have a 2'' BL? How does it look? Any regrets? ...Because that's the way I'm leaning right now. Thanks!

Re: Body Lift... Benefits vs. Looks

I guess this isn't a "bump" since nobody has started a thread in days... but I'm still looking for some opinions. I did find that there's such a thing as "gap guards" used to hide the gap between the frame and the body. They also block some of the mud from being flung onto the engine. Anybody have these? Thanks!

While the body lift is cheaper and allows for the bigger tires it can also mess up your linkage but its your jeep so do what u want

Re: Body Lift... Benefits vs. Looks

A 2" body lift is not all that bad looking but it will change the 'center of gravity' drastically. It costs less only if you do not have to change the drive train and such which you might have to change.

I would think a 1" body lift with the 2.3 or 3" suspension lift would do well if you only need to increase space to fit from the 33's to 35's it should be enough.

P.s. Watch the fan schroud when liftin (either lift) your Jeep. I installed an electric fan from a Ford in mine (purchased at the local junkyard) and it works better then the clutch fan.

Re: Body Lift... Benefits vs. Looks

I would not go with more than a 1" kit. When I bought my 99' it had a 3" body lift on it. The transfer case linkage would bind and I did not like the look of the gap between the frame and the body. I removed my body lift. Every thing is much better now. I would like a suspension lift just not in the budget. The only bad part about going with a larger tire is that if you want to keep some kind of performance you need to regear.

Re: Body Lift... Benefits vs. Looks

I've been thinking that a 1.25'' BL would be ideal. I don't think that the shift linkage needs to be messed with. And 4.25'' - 4.75'' of lift should be plenty for 35's. Anybody heard any good things about a motor lift? I was told that a 1'' Motor Lift reduces "hopping" if you go a little too heavy on the gas at a light. I guess a T-case drop would work about the same... Both change the drive line angles to make it easier on the rear, but the front suffers while in 4 whl.
As always, any and all input is appreciated.
