Check the vacuum supply to the HVAC controls. There should be a small vacuum line through the firewall, sometimes contained within a wire harness, which supplies vacuum to the HVAC controls. With no vacuum, the dampers default to the defrost position.

Hello all, Since there isn't much help on this problem I figured I would pass on what I have found so far. In my blazer I get heat blowing from dash vents as well as defroster vents. When I put the air control to floor it just comes out the defrost vents. We all know this system runs on vacume lines. I pulled apart the front of the dash including the glove box. Once you do this it is very easy to figure the vacume line system. Problem is it is not the vacume lines at all. It is not the vacum acutators either. All that was working fine but you should check it anyway. My problem was the floor vent acutator, which is located pretty much to the upper right of the gas peddle, is connect to a cheap white piece of plastic with a spring on it that goes into the heater box (I think that's what it's called). When the acutator is activated it moves the white piece of plastic that opens and closes the door for the floor vent. This white piece of plastic is clipped to another white piece of plastic that goes right into the heater box and that is what broke. Problem is I think you need to remove the entire heater box and I am not sure if the peice of plastic is even a replacable item. Anyway that is as far as I went due to lack of time. If anyone has anymore info on this please pass it on.

I have the EXACT same problem. I can see the actuater move up and down when I turn it to floor heat and have plenty of vacuum, but I believe the white plastic piece has broken off the damper (?or blend door?) that it is suppose to be moving to redirect heat to the floor. Did you ever get this problem resolved? What exactly did you do to fix the problem? What all had to be removed? I couldn't seem to see exactly how the center counsel is removed (I have the one with the cassette plater in it right under the ash tray)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I never went any further with this. The weather turned cold and just don't have the time right now. Been waiting for some replies to this hoping someone has fixed this problem. I have seen the full heater box on ebay for about 20.00....

Has anyone attempting to fix this situation yet?? I am wondering what all needs to be disassembled to get to this broken white plastic piece and where I can get a replacment part? Winter will be here before you know it and I don't need frozen toes again this winter! thanks.

I would go by a dealer & have them look it up on their computer. they will be able to tell you if it is a part that they have or can order. if not, can you J B weld it back together? or a junk yard.

I've had the eact same problem on my 98.....I've resorted to a coathanger through the passenger side floor vent to "push" the door open manually. At least my feet don't freeze.
