200 Concorde - Trouble Shifting out of Park
In the last day I started having a problem trying to shift from Park to Reverse. The shifter won't move, after a few tries I can get it into reverse and then there are now problem going between reverse and drive. The car has 57K miles on it. Any help would be appreciated.
Coincidentally about a week ago my air bag light came on, doesn't seem related but thought I would throw that out there. |

Re: 200 Concorde - Trouble Shifting out of Park
If I'm reading you correctly it seems that there is excessive effort needed to actually move the shifter,it's not a problem withe the interlock,or engagement of the trans?
If this is the case,I run into this quite often on these cars( I am a Chrysler technician) The problem is usually the shifter cable,It frays inside the casing,& gets harder to shift as the individual strands of cable break,& bunch up inside. The cable itself is not too pricey, but youMUST have a lift to replace it. It's kind of a bitch, something you'll want to take to the shop. Martola

Re: 200 Concorde - Trouble Shifting out of Park
Martola, thanks for the reply. I took it to the delaer and they are telling me it is the interlocking mechanism. They also tell me that the part is no longer made for this car, I assume they mean OEM.
Bottom line, they are saying I need to replace the steering column. Any thoughts? |
