2000 GA will not start

I am having a little problem getting my Grand Am to get going. The problem is I haven't really driven the thing all year, just sits in the driveway. It turns over and almost catches but just won't fire. I know it gets spark because I tried a little shot of starting fluid to check and it fired right up, ran for 5 seconds then died. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the ignition on as well.
I am kind of clueless on what it might be other than maybe a fuel filter. I just want to get it going so I can sell it because, well, it has been sitting there for quite a while. I did have it going in the summertime for a little ride but that was it.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It would help to know the engine and what not.

But I would try the fuel filter.
After sitting fuel can also go stale and not burn very well.
Migth try some fresh fuel after you change the filter.

The fuel filter is located in the rear above the axle.

Also the battery could be low due to it sitting.

Jeez I knew I forgot something. It is a 3.4L v6. The battery was low but I charged it up. I'll have to get a new filter tomorrw I suppose
