Re: engine problem

The next thing to do is try to pull up any codes. On my '93 Eldo I sit in the driver's seat, turn the key to ON, then simultaneously hold down OFF and WARMER on the climate control. Watch the dash to see what if any codes come up then post back here with them.
You can also spray some starting fluid into the intake. If it starts then dies you have a fuel problem most likely due to a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. At that point you'll need to put a pressure tester on the line to cheack it out.
If nothing happens when you spray the starting fluid, pull a wire off of a spark plug and holt just away from a good engine ground while a helper cranks it over. You should hear and see a spark. If you don't it is an ignition problem.
Have you checked all the fuses?

ok I did that and no codes came out. I changed out the fuel filter so I know its not that. It might be the fuel pump. It starts and runs slugges and then turns off. maybe not enough fuel going into the engine. Do they make maintance book for the fleetwood?

Re: engine problem

Both Barnes & Noble and Amazon have Chilton and/or Haynes manuals. They are also available locally at auto parts stores and some of the big box stores like Walmart and KMart.
It sure sounds like a fuel issue. You need to check the fuel pressure and check the fuse for the injectors.

Re: engine problem

In front of me at this moment I have a Chilton manual which covers 1990-1993 Deville, Fleetwood, Eldorado, and Seville. I bought it in Kmart about 7 or 8 years ago, before I bought a set of factory manuals on Ebay.
To test the fuel pressure you need a pressure tester for fuel injection. It connects to a schrader valve on the fuel rail. You need about 40+ lbs, IIRC.
The test procedure is covered in the manual.

Re: engine problem

P/N - 21030
Manual Title - Cadillac Rear Wheel Drive all gasoline models '70 thru '93

Haynes manuals has the above. The Chilton manual FI diagnostics should be the same however, even though it is FWD.

I paid around $20 for my FI pressure gauge at Pep Boys, IIRC.
