Which transmission?

i have a 96 Z71 5.0 auto w/ od just wondering if anyone knows which model# tranny came in that. mine just crapped out and im looking for a used one.

do you think im better off replacing w/ a used one or paying $2000+ to have it rebuilt.

If it was me, I probably would not buy a used one since you know nothing about the shape that it is in (or how long it will last).

To me, the real question is do I have it rebuilt locally or buy one that is already rebuilt (and you give them your old one to rebuild for someone else).

I think you have to look at the warranty and how you handle problems if the shop is not local.

it started making a loud grinding noise, then about 50 miles later it just let go. still moves the truck, just not very well. it slips at all speeds and doesnt seem like it will ever get up to 10-20 miles an hour from a stop? if anyone thinks its fixable please tell me??? i just asumed it was crap because ive had a few cars do the same.
