Musty Smell

I have a 2004 Reg Cab with the 5.3. I have been getting a musty/damp smell whenever I have either the heat or cold air setting on and the recylce air button pressed. I do not get the smell when it is taking in the air from outside. When I am moving it is not very noticable if at all but as soon as I stop I get that smell. It wasn't doing this when I first got it so I was wondering if anyone would have any insight as to what it might be? Thanks

Re: Musty Smell

You may have a bit of mold in the a/c. I know my truck had this smell on occasion, but it was never consistent.

Re: Musty Smell

Even with it being a 2004? What would I do to check for the mold and is there any way in which I can easily remove it if that is the case? Thanks Again

Change your cabin air filters.

Re: Musty Smell

I have the same problem with my 2004. I solve it by turning off the recirc for about two minutes before shutting off the engine. I notice it much more in the warm time of the year than cold. When I first start the truck and turn on the recirc, I'll smell that musty smell for a minute or so, but then it goes away. I never use the recirc button in cold weather, though.

Agree, that's one of the classic signs it needs changing.

Re: Musty Smell

I wouldn't change the filters. Mine has done this since it was brand new.
