Gauge cluster/overlay
Hey, i just purchased new autotechnic s7 gauges. They looked real clean and I plan on installing them this weekend. ephatch.com has great info and walkthroughs about ep3's and Type-s's but I was wondering if anyone has installed new overlays and any info on them. The directions are vague and mention removing the cluster form my car. Any info i.e screw locations would be awesome.THings are starting to pull together with the other mods I have, hope this isnt too bad of a job. thanks.

Re: Gauge cluster/overlay
I looked over the service manual. The usual 2 screws in bezel in front of cluster and 4 screws in cluster itself once bezel is removed. Tabs to release connectors. They also mention removal of the column covers... IMO that is a tough job to do without breaking the latch tabs on the lower cover. I have also read the bezel can be tight to remove.
The clear cover is held on in 4 locations and can be un-clipped for removal. That is all I know. |

Re: Gauge cluster/overlay
thanks for your reply. I broke 1 or 2 tabs when taking out my center console to wire a few things but it went back pretty solid, the dash console with the shifter and radio came out easy though when i paintede it. Are the latch clips your talking about the center console "screw type" clips or the ones like on the dash . and if they do break is it possible to replace or am I looking at some major work or new cluster. I was hoping to wire the power directly into the dimmer that way I dont have to use the dumb switch that comes with most aftermarket gauges and use the stock turn swith on the wheel. DIY or ask a garage and ask them to wire also?
thanks for the reply |

Re: Gauge cluster/overlay
The tabs on the lower cover look similar to -> TT TT TT and the upper cover has beveled clips that match and they somewhat snap together. Once they are together it is very tough to release/separate them. Really only the bottom covers latches can be broken, but they are part of the cover itself.
Use caution if tying into the illumination dimmer circuit ( I would avoid it IMO ) the dimmer is part of the cluster and not available as a separate item. |
