Anybody need a parts car?
I purchased a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo in Jan. of '05 for my (then) 16 year old daughter. It served her very well for 2 years, and the engine failed. I do not have the financial ability to shell out the $4000 + it would cost for a new engine and labor. I only owe around $1600, and paid close to $7000. This is a really nice car (less the useless motor) with all of the bells and whistles, it has been well kept and has new all terrain tires. It is rust orange met. w/ grey int.
V6 Auto around 80,000mi. power windows, door locks, A/C, AM FM CD Casette w/srs effect, traction control, ect... It is dent free and the paint looks new. It has a small tear in the plastic bumper cover, other than that is like new. Everything works (again with the exception of the motor). I am in the position to take one hell of a beating, then buy her another car, plus pay for her school. If any of you want or need this, please respond. I can probably deliver it within a couple of hundred miles. Thanks |

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
Man, that bites. What was the diagnosis on the engine? Failure due to loss of oil pressure? Give some details if you know them. We'd all like to help out if we can give you a chance to keep this truck on the road. Yes a whole new engine is 4 grand, but if it isn't a complete loss or no one has done a thorough examination of it it might not be as bad as you think or what you were told. Lots of people on here can help with appoximations of repairs. These engines are fairly tough. From your description, this one may be worth keeping. Beats taking a hosing on the sale of this if you need to buy another used car anyway to replace it - only to buy new problems.
Hell if you were closer I'd buy it myself and fix it up. (no rust in Texas) But I'd rather see you get it back running again. Tom

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
The shop that has it is the best foreign repair shop in town, and the owner is a good friend. It had blown a plug out last summer, and he put a machined bushing in the hole and fixed it. He told me at the time that he didn't think it had been properly maintained, and that I might want to sell it. My daughter loved her car and didn't want to, so ... Anyway this time a piston pretty much disintegrated. I wouldn't try to get by without a complete rebuild, and it's not worth it just to sell it, and I seriously can not afford it.

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
Sore,
Where are you located? Have you tried looking on www.junkyarddog.com for a used engine? I bought a used Tranny off there a while back and only paid a few hundred vs. the 2k the shop said. |

New Angle
Let me rephrase the question just to get some input.
If you had paid $7500 2 years ago for a mint 2000 2wd rodeo loaded, and all that was wrong with it was a blown engine. What is the bottom dollar you would think was reasonable? Granted I only owe a little bit on it, and someone is going to have to suffer the expense of a new engine, but in my mind, I see a figure around $2000. I was offered $1500 by a local dealer, and they own a salvage yard with an engine for it. I just think that the condition, and new tires add up to more. Am I wrong? |

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
Condition & tires don't generally mean a whole lot when it comes down to a major expense such as the engine.
If you were expecting $2k, and they're offering you $1,500 - I'd seriously think about taking it. New tires don't mean squat to a dealer. I had all new tires, shocks, brakes, tune-up, and then some on an older truck that we traded; granted the frame was rusting through, but the added new parts didn't hold a candle in the slightest.

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
$2,000 is reasonable.

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
how many miles on the rodeo if under 60k it should still be under warranty
I am about 3.5 hrs south of you I may be ablw to locate a block for you but it will most likely need a crank shaft if interested e-mail me [email protected] I may have a block at the shop it would be worth spending 2k to sell it for 5 but I really cant see it costing that much to repair one that only needs a crank |

Re: Anybody need a parts car?
Well I sold it today to a local dealer for $2000. I hated to do it, but I feel better now that it is not hangign over my head anymore. Thanks to all who gave input. This is a cool site, and I will probably be back on the Bronco II forum. Take care all
