3.1 vs 3.4
I recently acquired a chevy lumina euro, it's a 92 with 250,000 miles on it. I have a friend that has a transmission for a lumina, the only problem is his engine is a 3.4 and mine a 3.1. Will these two be compatable?

Re: 3.1 vs 3.4
From what I'm reading in my repair manual, the '92 lumina (3.1L) came with either the 3T40 or 4T60-E transmission. All of the 3.4L (automatics) that I see seem to have the 4T60-E. I don't know anything about whether or not they will bolt up, but the transmission type is straight out of the repair manual. Good luck.

Re: 3.1 vs 3.4
As Gw84 stated, most Lumina's with the V-6 came with the 4-speed auto. As long as both cars are 92-newer, the only 4-speed they used was the 4T60-E and both trans should be interchangeable. The 90-91's also had a non electronic 4T60 trans, that is not compatable.

Re: 3.1 vs 3.4
I agree with Rich. Your year and model Lumina was delivered with the 4T60E GM RPO code M13 regardless of whether a 3.1 or 3.4 engine. Before 1992 it was the GM RPO code ME9 which is a THM-440-T4 dubbed the 4T60. The 3T40 later 4T40 was only offered in GM compacts/sub-compacts such as N and J bodies not "W" bodies.
