Re: turbo b20?

If you want it to last, then you'll need to do sleeves, pistons, and connecting rods.

not necessarily true....it depends entirely on the power goal and the setup

True, but most people want enough power to need a good rebuild. Or they end up turboing it with a little boost and in the end turn it up anyways.

Yes spawnliban, the B20/vtec is the answer to both those question. Potentially, you could build the b20/vtec and then turbo it. And Building up the b20/vtec will be less expensive as buying a turbo kit (though you can piece together one for a lot cheaper than buying a prefabbed kit). Really depends on how far you're willing to go with it.

Re: turbo b20?

well before i started this project price wasnt a thing till i realized how much i paid for everything lol. anyway i'll prolly go with turbo first then vtec and see how that works out. i'll prolly do the suspension before i get to the turbo

Re: turbo b20?

On my stock engine 99 GSR, i did my setup like this....

1. Standard setup....no frills. Made a respectable 275whp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno

2. Replaced turbo, topmount manifold rather than the log, a 3" downpipe and exhaust, Crome Pro/Hondata S2b, RC880s rather than 550s

3. Engine rebuild....Eagle/CP----no sleeves

what i'm getting at, is that if you dont have the money to do it all at once, then just go in stages, but make sure they're logical stages. Personally i would ditch the B20 and find an LS engine because the stock sleeves are stronger

Re: turbo b20?

Err i cant ditch the dam b20 not just yet. thats the hardest part i try to do alot of research but the thing i might never get is what to do. So far this is what ive done b20b s1 exedy clutch/finanza flywheel/2.25 custom cat back wit 2.5' muffler now the vtec has to all go in at one time. even if i do vtec tommorow wit the SI head, its only gonna be like 160 whp which sucks! dont know which pistons to go with if i should touch the cam gears change manifold all that good stuff. clueeeless

Re: turbo b20?

toss a GSR head on it and you're done w/ the VTEC part of it. The stock manifold will work just fine, but if you want to upgrade eventually, then do it. You could make 250whp easily on the stock engine AS LONG AS you have a solid setup and you have the car professionally tuned.

Re: turbo b20?

no, you'd be fine on a stock internal setup at that power level...

Re: turbo b20?

to make that power level you need to put a turbo setup on your STOCK B20 (unless there's something wrong with it) and get it tuned professionally....you do not need to rip it apart and rebuild it IF it is in good condition
