Transfer Case Problems

99 bravada

about july i figured i had a leak in the transfer case. it had gone bone dry and was knocking pretty bad, so i'm afraid something was damaged then. replaced the rear seal. still leaked. after looking at it, it seemed that it was leaking from bolts/gasket that run left to right in the middle of the case. put some atv on that seal after cleaning it up good. since then, my wife got stuck in the ditch (snow), and i pushed it pretty hard to get it out. since then whenever i hit a slick/snowy patch, the transfer case feels like something is slipping and knocking. runs fine on dry pavement. and i fishtail a lot. just seems like i've lost 4wheel drive. if the transfer case is damaged, would you suggest getting a new one put in or repair old one? just wondering what my options are and suggestions. i'm not wonderful with fixing things, but i can follow the haynes fairly well and my cousin who works on tractors can help me if its something we can do. thanks

josh

Re: Transfer Case Problems

I don't know Josh, I've never had one apart. If the Haynes manual had a complete breakdown of the transfer case, you might have a chance.
When you get it back normal, you might try wiring the encoder/shift motor with a switch inside the car so it won't engage at the wrong time and start busting parts again.
