Question New driveaxle is different than the old one??

Well it's not new, but the rebuilt driveaxle I got off Ebay isn't quite the same as the one I took off my 96 Windstar. Just wondering if that'll be a problem. All the differences are on the outer CV Joint end. The thing I'm concerned about most is the ABS ring. It's significantly thinner on the rebuilt unit. Will the ABS system work? The ebay description said the drive axle was for 95-98 Windstars. My shop manual shows the 95 to have a different internal CV joint design but there are no photos showing the ABS ring so can't confirm that I got a 95 axle but that's what I suspect. Another difference is in the threaded part that sticks through the hub. On my original axle it is threaded all the way to the outer end. On the rebuilt unit the outer end of the axle is machined to a smaller diameter and not threaded for probably the first 1/2".

Can anyone shed any light? Shall I go ahead and intall the thing? If the 95 had a flawed design which got fixed in 96 I won't be real happy that I got a 95. On the other hand it should work, just not sure about that ABS ring.

I would check the locations of the items on the replacement shaft conpaired to the one being replaced. In regard to the ABS ring, is it the same diameter? Keep in mind that the ring has to be in a location "I would think somewhere in the middle of the sensor", so it can cause the sensor to get it's pulse.

Have you replaced an axle before?

Regards

Dan

Yes, diameter seems to be the same.

I looks like the ring will be in the correct place - it's just a lot thinner than the old one. The sensor is pretty big and fat - not sure if it needs an equally big and fat ring to properly sense?

I've had them on and off on my Subaru but never on anything else - any tips?
