Question 4 wheel drive blows fuse

My 95 suburban blows a fuse when I try to engage the 4 wheel drive. Can anybody tell me where to start looking for the problem

Re: 4 wheel drive blows fuse

Get under the front axle and there is and actuator in the axle somewhat on the passenger side(probably a 2 wire connector on the end of wires), disconnect the actuator and see if it still blows the fuse when you try to engage 4x4, if the fuse doesn't blow, replace the actuator. You probably have the older style actuator that heats a fluid that forces the plunger out to engage the axle, the heater probably shorted out, you could possibly upgrade this system to the style used my 97 and newer that offers instant engagement and it will stay engaged with the key off. Do a search here and you should be able to find the part numbers for the new style actuator and wiring harness adapter. I put the new style in my 96 a few years ago and love it

Thumbs up Re: 4 wheel drive blows fuse

Sure enough it was the actuator. Thanks for the help. I couldn't find any info about the new style actuator you installed. I am interested so if you remember what it's called or where you bought it drop me a line. Thanks again.
